Born November 21, 1937 - American actress, producer, and social activist. Her brother is a producer, and her younger sister was short-lived as an actress. She grew up in Beverly Hills, California and graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree.
Marlo Thomas began her acting career with a role in the sitcom The Joe Bishop Show in 1961-62, and after that she was a guest on many shows such as Bonanza. During that period, she underwent rhinoplasty and corrected her nose, making it smaller. Marlo Thomas's greatest success was the starring role in the comedy television series This Girl, about a young actress who moves to New York to become a Broadway star, which was released from 1966 to 1971. The concept for the series, considered the first sitcom in television history to focus entirely on the life of a young and independent woman, was based on the personal experiences of Marlo Thomas. The series became famous for demonstrating women's independence in a world dominated by men at work and at home. The series ran for five seasons and had high ratings until the finale, but the decision to end it was made by Marlo Thomas herself, who was not only the leading actress, but also the producer. Thomas stated that she's not going to play the same character for eternity and that is why she decided to end the show. In 1967, Thomas won a Golden Globe and was nominated four times for an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Television Series during the broadcast. After the end of the series, Thomas, as well as Sally Field and Elizabeth Montgomery, faced the problem of changing roles, since viewers saw the actress only as the heroine of the sitcom. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her starring role in the movie Jenny, but in the following years was never able to completely shake off her sitcom star image. She has pursued a career starring in both comedies and dramas in film and television, appearing in films such as It Happened Once on Christmas Day (1977), Catherine Beck's Lost Honor (1984), Maturity "(1985) and" Nobody's Child "(1986) and has received numerous Emmy and Golden Globe awards for her performance. In recent years, Thomas has been mainly active on the stage. She has guest-starred on many television series such as Friends as Rachel Greene's mother, Ellie McBeal, Frazier, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Ugly, as a TV personality on various channels, and she was actively involved in production activities, producing many television films and special programs.
