April 19, 1898 - November 23, 1973 - American actress, sister of Norma Talmadge and Natalie Talmadge.
Her father was an alcoholic and left the family when Tolmadge was still a child. Constance, along with her sisters Norma and Natalie, remained in the care of her mother, who made a living doing laundry. After her older sister Norma made her film debut as an actress, Constant Tolmadge decided to follow her example, making her first film appearance in 1914.
After two years of participation in short films, she got her first leading role in the epic tape of David Wark Griffith "Intolerance" (1916). Over the years of her film career, which lasted until 1929, Tolmadge stuck to the role of a comedic actress, starring in a total of 80 films, including Honeymoon (1917), Trial Marriage (1919), Temperamental Wife (1919), The Virtuous Seductress (1919), Her Romantic Night (1924), Breakfast at Dawn (1927) and Venus (1929) .
In 1929, with the advent of talkie, Tolmadge, like her sisters, ended her film career by investing her savings in real estate and other investments. In later years, she had problems with alcohol and drugs, which to its extent affected her health. The actress was married four times, and all her marriages were childless. The first three marriages ended in divorce, and she remained with her second spouse from 1939 until his death in 1964. In 1960, the star Constance Tolmadge was laid on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The actress spent the last years of her life in seclusion at her home in Los Angeles, where she died of pneumonia in 1973.
