Laura Constance Hardy was born in Windsor, Berkshire on January 22, 1878. She made her acting debut in early childhood when, at the age of three, she played a fairy in Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 1893 she was accepted into the dance troupe of the Gaieati Theater in London, where she soon achieved significant success. A big breakthrough for her was the role of Cleopatra in Shakespeare's tragedy Antony and Cleopatra, which was staged on the stage of Her Majesty's Tetra in 1906.
