August 10, 1902 (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) - June 12, 1983 (Vodlands Hill, Los Angeles, California, USA) .
Shearer moved to New York with her family when she was little. At fourteen, she won a beauty pageant and worked as a model. Her acting career began in 1919 with a cameo role, and in 1922 she already starred in the lead roles - a year before Irving Thalberg appeared at MGM studio and signed a contract with him. They got married in 1927. Louis B. Mayer is said to have had no need for Shearer and would have fired her if it hadn't been for Thalberg. After Thalberg's death in 1936, Shearer starred in Marie Antoinette (1938), then Idiot Delight (1939), and won the fierce competition in Women (1939). Abandoning the lead role in Mrs Miniver (1942), she retired from the cinema. Shearer married ski instructor (20 years younger) Martin Arrowg and lived with him until the end of her days. In the 1930s, Norma Shearer became one of the Hollywood movie stars. In 1962 she starred in the mini-series Saints and Sinners.
