February 4, 1918 - August 3, 1995 - British and American actress, one of the first female directors in film history. She was born in London into an acting family, thanks to which, in 1931, she made her film debut in the film "Love Race". She continued her film career, appearing later in minor roles in many British films. The directors saw in her a serious dramatic actress only in 1939, after she appeared in the films "The Lights went out" and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" .
Throughout the 1940s, she became a highly sought after actress, starring in films such as They Rode at Night (1940), High Sierra (1941), Sea Wolf (1941), Moon Tide (1942) and some others.
In 1949, her desire to become a film director came true after director Elmer Clifton suffered a heart attack and was unable to complete his last film. Aida Lupino took over this responsibility, after which she decided to take up her own directing projects. In the future, Lupino mainly made films noir, while becoming the first woman director to work in this direction. Her most famous directorial work is "The Hitcher" .
Lupino did not leave her career as an actress, continuing to actively appear in films and television until 1978. For her contributions to film and television, she has been honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The actress got married three times and all three times the marriage ended in divorce. She died of a stroke in Los Angeles at the age of 77.
