August 13, 1913 - October 31, 1965 - American actress best known for her roles in films of the 1940s. Johnson began as a pianist and radio actress, began working on Broadway in 1937, and began acting in Hollywood that same year. Johnson was "an extremely versatile actress who, in the 1940s, could play almost any role suitable for an actress with a high level of beauty and intelligence." Johnson was an ideal candidate for a female supporting role (either a friend or rival of the main character) .
The best films with Rita Johnson's participation were the biopic Edison (1940), the fantasy melodrama Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941), the romantic comedy The Major and the Baby (1942), the crime comedy The Dissolute Nineties (1945), as well as the noir films Won't Believe Me (1947), Big Clock (1948) and Sleep, My Love (1948) .
Johnson's career almost ended in 1948, after she was seriously injured, according to the official version, as a result of a hair dryer falling on her head. She underwent neurosurgery, after which she could not work for a year, and then played only small roles.
