Born December 4, 1951, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA is an American actress, producer and playwright.

Her childhood was spent in Grove City, Pennsylvania. She studied drama at Temple University in Philadelphia and graduated from Wesleyan University in Ohio in 1974.

Her acting training took place at the Neighborhood Theater, where she was Shirley McLain's personal dresser for a while. In 1980-1981, Wettig was a member of the New York Theater Company, with which she participated in various productions of theaters in New York.

Since the mid-1980s, Wettig has appeared in many television series. Her most successful roles were in St. Elsver and Thirty-something, in which the role of Nancy Weston won her three Emmy awards and one Golden Globe. The role of cancer patient Nancy Weston attracted significant critical attention to the actress, and the series itself, as a result, was included in the lists of the best programs in the history of television years later.

In 1991, following her television success, Wettig made her big-screen debut in the thriller Guilty by Suspicion. She also starred in the short-lived 1995 series Courthouse.

In the late nineties, Patricia Wettig took a hiatus from her acting career and entered Smith College, from which she graduated in 2001 with a master's degree in drama. In 2002-2004, she played the role of the CIA psychotherapist in the television series "Spy". She also starred as Vice President and then US President Caroline Reynolds in the first two seasons of The Getaway.

In 2006, Patricia Wettig was cast as Holly Harper, former actress and mistress of her deceased husband, Nora Walker (Sally Field), in the TV series Brothers and Sisters. She starred in the series until 2011, and left in January, midway through the fifth and final season.
