In 1976, after graduating from Drake University (Des Moines), where he studied acting, he moved to New York. Not getting a job to match his education, Michael works as a freelance illustrator. First married in 1986. Moved to Jacksonville, Florida the same year. There, from 1986 to 1993, he often appeared in the main theaters of the city, and also taught at Flagler College.
