Born April 30, 1940 in Queens (New York) in the family of Italian Americans Josephine and Michael under the name Gerald Tommaso De Louise (abbreviated as Jerry De Louise). He studied acting at the Acting Studio under the direction of Lee Strasberg. He became a widower early, his wife Gloria died in 1974, leaving him with a five-year-old daughter (born in 1969) Anna Moreya.
