Born January 4, 1960, Decatur, Georgia, USA - American musician and singer.
Stipe spent his childhood in Germany, as well as the states of Texas, Illinois, Alabama and Georgia. In 1978, Michael graduated from high school and entered the University of Georgia, where he studied photography and fine arts.
In 1980 Stipe meets Peter Buck, with whom he decided to found a rock band. They were soon joined by two more members - Mike Mills and Bill Berry. Soon all the members of the REM group (whose name Stipe chose by accident) interrupted their studies at the university in order to devote more time to music. Stipe lasted longer than three of his comrades at the university.
