February 23, 1932 - December 18, 2008 - American actress and producer
Already in childhood, Mejel took acting lessons. After studying at the University of Miami, she began getting roles and finally got to Hollywood. There she worked on such TV shows as Bonanza, The Untouchables, The Lucy Show, and The Lieutenant. On August 6, 1969, the actress married Gene Roddenberry. The wedding took place in Japan after the original Star Trek series ended. On February 5, 1974, they had a son, Rod, who later became a television producer.
Her first role in Star Trek was as an unnamed officer in the pilot episode "The Cage" in 1964. She later landed the role of nurse Christine Chapel.
She died in 2008 from complications of leukemia.
