Born May 15, 1960, Wichita Falls, Texas, USA - American film and television director, screenwriter and producer.

Having watched the film The Wizard of Oz as a child, Bowman became interested in cinematography and began to spend a lot of time at his father's work, often performing the duties of an assistant director.

After studying filmography at the University of Utah, Bowman moved to Los Angeles. There he landed a job in the post office of Stephen Cannell Productions, where he worked for two years, supervising film production whenever possible. Along the way, he took courses for directors, and over time developed his own personal style of directing.

In 1982, Bowman began filming for Kenela, working in secondary roles. After leaving Kennel's company in 1987, Bowman impressed producer Robert Justman, who hired him to direct the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Bowman was 27 at the time, and when he first met executive producer Rick Berman, he was initially mistaken for a pizza peddler. Bowman directed Episode 4, and his work greatly impressed the show's creator, Gene Roddenbury. Bowman directed two episodes of Star Trek in the first season of the series, and five in 1988. In addition, he directed several TV shows that year, including 21 Jump Street, and later took over the director's chair on the set of Winged Rollers.

After seeing the commercial for the X-Files pilot, Bowman contacted his agent, telling him he wanted to direct the series. Bowman made his directorial debut in the episode "Transsexual." Later, Bowman became one of the most productive directors of The X-Files and received the right to direct their first feature-length film adaptation, and also became a producer of the series.

Later, ABC hired Bowman to direct the pilot for Castle.
