At age 10, fell in love with animation after watching Ward Kimball's The Wonderful World of Disney short films. He started to paint, his grandmother told about the animation program at the school, which helped him to enter the California Institute of the Arts. After graduating from college in 1984, he went to work for Marvel Comics. Helped draw characters for a children's show. In 1987 he moved to Disney, worked in the department of "visual" development. Did minor work for The Rescuers Down Under (1990). Sanders has made his way to the heights of Disney animation with his contributions to Beauty and the Beast (1991) and The Lion King (1994). He helped write the 1998 Disney hit Mulan (1998), a job that allowed him to direct and write for the Lilo & Stitch project (2002), which brought him credibility and fame. For this cartoon, Chris was also nominated for an Oscar. In 2006, he was removed from the post of the head of the American Dog project by John Lasseter after the latter was appointed to the post of producer (he had disagreements with Sanders). As a result, the plot was completely redone, and Chris Williams was appointed as the new director, and the film was named "Volt". In March 2007, Chris Sanders joined DreamWorks Animation. In September 2008, it became known that Chris Sanders and Dean Deblois (his co-author and co-director on "Lilo & Stitch") were appointed directors of the cartoon "How to Train Your Dragon."
