January 10, 1930, Los Angeles - December 16, 2009, Newport Beach, California - American producer, screenwriter, director and cameraman.

In 1951, Roy graduated from Pomona College, California, and got a job as an assistant director and producer with the Walt Disney Company.

16 years later, in 1967, he was elected to the board of directors. In 1977, he resigned from the post of executive director, explaining this by the situation in the company, but retained his seat on the board of directors. He was bored and didn’t feel that Disney could do anything interesting.

It was Roy Disney, a gentle and delicate man, who had to insist on the difficult decisions for him to fire two famous top managers of the Disney company - Ron Miller, Walt Disney's son-in-law, in 1984, and Michael Eisner, who gave the company 20 years, in 2004-m. Roy felt that Miller and Eisner's leadership activities threatened the safety of the company and resulted in the loss of the famous Disney spirit. And the only thing Roy demanded from the employees of the company was not to lower the high bar reached in the past. In 1984, he had to resist attempts at division and takeover of the company by unscrupulous investors and the sale of assets. This corporate battle ended with Miller being fired, replaced by Michael Eisner and Frank Wells. Roy Disney soon became vice chairman of the board of directors and head of the animation department. Roy's goal was to revive the cartoon tradition, and he succeeded in this endeavor with the release of Fantasy 2000, the sequel to Walt Disney's acclaimed 1940's Fantasy. Walt Disney planned a sequel, but never took it.

In 2003, a new corporate battle broke out, this time with Michael Eisner. Roy said the company was suffering huge losses because it had to run multiple video channels and the animation business, a core component of Disney, had been abandoned. And this time, Roy won, and Michael Eisner resigned. After his departure, the Disney Corporation joined the Pixar studio, which released such masterpieces as Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, Cars and others.

Roy Disney's passion was sailing. He set several speed records, including crossing from Los Angeles to Honolulu in a monohull boat in record time - 7 days, 11 hours, 41 minutes, 27 seconds. On April 26, 2008, Disney received an honorary doctorate from the California Maritime Academy for his significant contributions to the development of the state and nation, including international sailing.
