Born June 29, 1949, Paradise, New York is an American film director, screenwriter and artist.

He got hooked on animation at the age of 5 when he saw the cartoon "Peter Pan". A few years later, he decided to work at Disney, went to Disneyland to recruit a young animator and began studying, drawing Donald Duck and reading a lot about animation. But at school, he abandoned this dream, he was greatly influenced by the news of the death of Walt Disney.

Allers studied painting at the University of Arizona. After receiving his diploma, he traveled to Greece for several years, where he met his future wife. He and his wife soon returned to Boston and wanted to return to animation again. He graduated from Harvard, and got a job at the studio of Steven Leesberger (director of "Tron" and producer of its sequel, "Tron: Legacy"). There he worked on animated series (including Sesame Street), TV screensavers and commercials.

In 1978, Allers moved to Los Angeles with Leesberger's studio, where he began work on the full-length project Animalympics. He was the filmmaker's right-hand man, writing, character development and animation.

In 1985, Allers found out that Disney was looking for a screenwriter for Oliver & Company, and immediately decided to try his luck. He soon became the main screenwriter for this film. He went on to work on The Little Mermaid, The Prince and the Pauper and Rescuers in Australia, until Allers was assigned to lead the writing team for Beauty and the Beast.
