Jeffrey Katzenberg - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Producer, Actor, Director, Writer.

Born December 21, 1950, New York is an American producer, actor, director, and screenwriter.

For a short time, Katzenberg dabbled in acting as a "talent agent," an intermediary offering studios the services of his collaborating actors, but in 1975 he became an assistant to Barry Diller, chairman of Paramount Pictures. Diller put Katzenberg in the marketing department and then in the television department, where Katzenberg was tasked with reviving the Star Trek franchise. This series became more successful than Star Trek: The Film (1979). Some time later, Katzenberg became President of Production under the direct supervision of COO Michael Eisner.

In 1984 Eisner became CEO of The Walt Disney Company. He brought Katzenberg with him to the company and put him in charge of the management of the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, including the struggling Walt Disney Feature Animation division. Under Katzenberg, the company's business took off - during his leadership, the most successful films of the Disney studio were created: Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991, the only animated film nominated Oscar for Best Picture), Aladdin (1992) and The Lion King (1994), which was the most commercially successful film for family viewing until 2003. It also set the stage for Pixar and Disney's hugely successful partnership and acquisition Disney's Miramax Films.

When Eisner's deputy, Frank Wells, was killed in a helicopter crash in 1994, Eisner refused to appoint Katzenberg to the vacated presidency. Katzenberg issued an ultimatum, threatening to leave the company, and was fired. Then he began a lawsuit against Disney to receive $ 280 million, which, according to him, the studio owed him. And he won this process. Probably, even then he had an idea for the future Shrek, the prototype of which is very similar to his former boss Michael Eisner.

A year later, Katzenberg founded DreamWorks SKG with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen. On this investment, Katzenberg, according to Forbes, earned $ 800 million in profit, investing $ 30 million in the business. He also produced the films The Prince of Egypt (1998), King of Dreams (2000) and Spirit: Stallion of the Prairie (2002).

Starting off for health, the studio soon struggled - plans to found a studio campus in Los Angeles were buried when it had to sell its record label and video game division. The company was twice a step away from bankruptcy. The studio suffered losses of $ 125 million, which brought the film "Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas", and it also had to incur losses due to the fact that the DVD of the film "Shrek 2" was released in an unreasonably large circulation. However, thanks to its animation division, the studio managed to survive the crisis.

In 2004, Dreamworks Animation (DWA) was spun off into a separate company, headed by Katzenberg, and conducted an extremely successful initial public offering.

DreamWorks was sold to Viacom in December 2005, and as Viacom also owns Paramount, Katzenberg is back in the same company with his former colleagues. (unavailable link).

In 2006, Katzenberg appeared in the fifth season of The Apprentice (the Russian version is called "The Candidate"). The winners of the show were given the opportunity to voice the minor characters in the cartoon "The Forest Brothers".

Received an honorary doctorate from Ringling College of Art and Design (May 2, 2008). In 2013, Katzenberg was awarded a special Oscar for his achievements in the field of humanism. In the same year he was awarded the US National Medal of the Arts.
