Born October 13, 1950, Bronx, New York - American playwright, screenwriter, theater and film director.
Graduated from New York University's School of Culture, Education and Human Development.
For the screenplay of Moonstruck (1987), Shengli received an Academy Award and a WGA Award (Screen). In 1990, Shanley made his directorial debut with the film "Joe Versus the Volcano".
In 2005, Shanley's play "Doubt" was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, the Drama Desk Award and the Tony Prize.
In 2008, Shengli directed and wrote the film Doubt, for which he was nominated for an Oscar.
