In 1994, Sade members Stuart Matthewman (saxophone, guitar), Paul S. Denman (bass), and Andrew Hale (keyboards) formed Sweetback after the end of their world tour in support of Love Deluxe. They released their first album, Sweetback, in 1996 through Epic, with guest vocalists Amel Larrieux, Maxwell, Leroy Osbourne. In 2004 the album "Stage 2" was released. They call their music "global soul music."
