January 21, 1922 - January 22, 1994 - American actor.
After graduation, he entered Columbia University, where he studied psychology. However, during World War II, he left his studies and joined the army, where he was later awarded the Purple Heart Medal. In the early 1950s, Savalas worked for ABC Radio and also hosted his own talk show, Telly's Coffee House. He became an easily recognizable persona thanks to his bald head and was often invited to play the roles of character villains. For one of these roles in the film "Bird Lover of Alcatraz" in 1962, he was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Supporting Actor." In the 1969 western McKenna's Gold, Savalas played the role of Sergeant Tibbs, and in the film On Her Majesty's Secret Service (the sixth Bond series) he played the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. However, the greatest international fame brought him the main role in the television series "Kojak" (Kojak), where he played the role of Lieutenant Theo Kojak - a charismatic New York detective, not indifferent to candy canes. For this role, he was awarded an Emmy and twice Golden Globe .
Was John Aniston's best friend. Baptized John's daughter Jennifer. Savalas was also an avid poker player and reached 21st place in the 1992 World Series of Poker. He died in 1994 from bladder and prostate cancer.
