Born May 1, 1950 - American actor.
After graduating from high school, he entered Eastern Michigan University, which he left to pursue an acting career in New York. In the 1970s, he moved to California, where he continued his career on stage, and in the early 1980s he returned to New York. After Florek began his television career, appearing in Hill Street Blues, Matlock and 21 Jump Street, and also had a supporting role in the husband of Susan Ruttan's character in Los Angeles Law (1988-1993) .
Over the years, Florek has appeared with small roles in several films, including Angel Heart (1987), Sunset (1988), Moon over Parador (1988), Intruder Flight (1991), The Flintstones. (1994), Downpour (1998) and Handsome Joe (2000) .
In 1990, Florek began acting as Captain Craigen on the NBC series Law & Order. He was a main cast member of the pilot episode that was filmed back in 1988, which subsequently aired as the sixth episode of the first season. The show received mediocre reviews and ratings in the early years due to the lack of female characters in the main cast, which in 1993 led to the firing of several actors, including Florek. S. Epata Merkerson took his place on the series in the fall of 1993, and Florek has since appeared in two disastrous sitcoms; "Cool" (Fox, 1994) and "The Secret Diary of Desmond Phifer" (UPN, 1998), the latter of which was named after years one of the worst TV shows in history. He returned to the show in 1995 and also directed three episodes from 1993-95. In 1999, when NBC decided to launch the Law & Order spin-off, Florek was invited to a project called Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Florek has since starred in fifteen seasons of the series before leaving the project when his character was retired. The last episode with his participation was broadcast on January 15, 2014. In total, Florek appeared in almost four hundred episodes of both series in his role, ironically comparing with S. Epatha Merkerson for the record duration of playing one role on television.
