July 20, 1938, Doncaster, Yorkshire, England, UK - September 10, 2020, London, England, UK - British actress.

When she was two months old, she and her mother moved to India, where her father had previously been offered a job as a railway manager. Seven years later, they returned to their homeland, where Diana began to study at a girls' gymnasium. Her brother Hugh, who was born in India, is 4 years her senior.

At the age of 12, her parents took her with them to the production of "Henry VIII" by William Shakespeare, and from that time Diana became interested in the theater. The following year, she first appeared on stage, playing the role of Goldilocks.

In 1955 she entered the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Diana's studies were difficult, but she still found the strength to graduate from the academy after 2 years. Her professional debut took place on June 24, 1957 with the play "The Caucasian Chalk Circle", where she played the role of Natella Abashvili.

After graduating from the academy in July 1957, she took a short job as a model. After earning sufficient funds, she signed with the Chesterfield Repertory Company and in March 1958 made her debut in Jerome K. Jerome's The Fourth Floor Tenant, playing Vivian. Working as an assistant stage manager and appearing in cameo roles, she single-mindedly sought out a serious theater job.

In 1959 she was invited to work at the Royal Shakespeare Theater, where she remained until 1971. Since then, Diane has played various roles at the National Theater of Great Britain and, since 1976, has performed in various theaters in England and abroad.

In the subsequent years she starred in films and television. Her television debut took place in April 1961 with the showing of the second act of the theatrical play "Ondina". The first movie with her participation "A Midsummer Night's Dream" was released in 1969.

World fame was brought to her by the British television series of the 1960s "The Avengers" and the role of Tracy Bond - the girl of agent 007 in the movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". In 1973, her own show "Diana" was released, which was unsuccessful.

Since the early 1990s she has been playing a lot on stage. Among her characters there are many very tragic figures, such as Medea, Cleopatra and Virginia Woolf.

In 1988 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire, and in 1994 - the title of "Dame Commander". In 1997, Rigg received an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in the TV movie Rebecca.
