Born December 27, 1981, Mount Eliza, Victoria, Australia is an Australian actress.
Australian and French-British roots. Studying ballet from the age of nine at Christa Cameron School of Ballet in Melbourne and studying at home with her mother, she entered the Australian Ballet School at age fifteen, which she dropped out a year later. She studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in the Sydney suburb of Kensington and at the Prime Time Actors Studio in Los Angeles.
Emily's first major role was the recurring role of the demon Karapira in the Australian TV series Beast Mastery. She then appeared as the human alien Tess Harding in the youth TV series Alien City. She landed the role a month after arriving in Los Angeles at the age of eighteen.
In 2004, she was cast for the role of Claire Littleton in the ABC hit "Lost." In this series, she regularly starred for the first four seasons and returned back in the final sixth season.
In 2005, she starred as Emily Kostic, the heroine-addicted ex-girlfriend of Brendan Fry (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), in Brick. A year later, she appeared as Brenda Carter in the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. She appeared in The Perfect Game and in 2009 in Johnny D. as a bank teller named Barbara Patske. De Ravin was supposed to star in the film adaptation of Onimusha, but producer Samuel Hadida, due to the death of Heath Ledger, who starred in his other project, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, had to postpone the release date of the film. Onimusha has been postponed indefinitely and there is no confirmation that de Ravin will continue to participate in this project.
In the summer of 2009, Emily starred in Remember Me with Robert Pattinson.
She is currently filming the fantastic TV series Once Upon a Time as Belle, the main character of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale.
