In 1912, Frank Borzegi began acting in Hollywood. He made his directorial debut in 1915. The peak of his career came in the second half of the 1920s. Influenced by F.W. Murnau, then at 20th Century Fox, he developed his own visual romantic style in a series of hugely successful films starring Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell. It includes the film "The Seventh Heaven", for which Borzegi won the first Oscar in history for Best Director. He received this award again in 1932 for the film "Bad Girl".
In the 1940s, Borzega's high reputation faded. Of his later works, only the film noir "Moonrise" (1948) received critical acclaim. After that, he practically stopped working in films.
