Marnie Nixon - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, actress.
February 22, 1930 - July 24, 2016 - American singer (soprano), actress, and voice-over artist.
Best known for dubbing leading actresses in the popular musicals The King and I (1956), West Side Story (1961) and My Fair Lady (1964). In 1965, Nixon's first and only appearance on the big screen took place - she played the role of Sophia's sister in the famous musical by Robert Wise "The Sound of Music" .
From 1969 to 1971, Marnie Nixon taught at the California Institute of the Arts, and from 1980 she worked at the Academy of Music of the West in Montecito. Since the late 1970s, she has been the host of a Seattle kids show that won her three Daytime Emmy Awards. In addition to this, she has performed solo roles in operas in Los Angeles, Seattle and San Francisco, and has performed as a soloist with orchestras in New York, Cleveland, Toronto, London and Israel. Nixon also had an active career in theater, including in musical productions on Broadway.
Marnie Nixon was married three times. From her first husband, composer Ernest Gold, she gave birth to a son, Andrew Gold, who also became a musician, who died of a heart attack in 2011 at the age of 59. Nixon herself died in the summer of 2016 at the age of 86 from the effects of breast cancer.
