Cynthia Nixon was born in New York, New York. Mother - actress Anna Knoll, father - radio journalist Walter Nixon.
Cynthia got her first role at the age of twelve, at the age of fifteen she first received a theater award, and at eighteen she starred in two popular Broadway musicals at once.
On television, she played mostly small comedic roles. This continued until Cynthia's friend Sarah Jessica Parker, with whom they were friends for many years (in their youth they played sisters in the same film), offered her the role of her friend in the television series "Sex and the City".
