Born October 22, 1943, Eindhoven is a Dutch and American cameraman, producer, director and actor.

At the beginning of his film career, he worked as a cameraman with the Dutch avant-garde director Adrian Dietworth (Paranoia, 1967). He gained fame in 1973 after the release of Paul Verhoeven's film "Turkish Sweets" with Rutger Hauer in the title role. In the early 1980s, de Bont left for the United States. In Hollywood, he took part in the filming of the films Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October, Lethal Weapon 3 and others. Cooperation with Verhoeven, who also came to the United States, continued.

In 1994, de Bont made his directorial debut - "Speed" with Keanu Reeves, a dynamic action movie about the confrontation between a commando and a terrorist. The next film, Tornado, was about meteorologists who study tornadoes. Both films became commercial hits. However, the film "Speed-2" failed at the box office and since then de Bont-director has not had great success. He was supposed to direct "Godzilla" and "Minority Report", but in the end the films were directed by Roland Emmerich and Steven Spielberg, respectively.

In 2006, it was reported that de Bont was shooting the film Stopping Power, in which John Cusack was supposed to play a former pilot rescuing his daughter from kidnappers, but at the end of 2007 the Internationalmedia company announced the closure of the project. In 2008, de Bont accepted an offer to work on the sequel to the action movie On the Crest of the Wave.
