Born July 18, 1938 (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) .
In 1960 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Leiden University.
In the sixties, he worked in the television brigade of the Dutch Royal Navy, and then began making small television films.
Verhoeven's first full-length feature film was the tragicomedy "Business is Business" (1971) about two Amsterdam prostitutes. And the film "Turkish Sweets" (1973) - Verhoeven's first experience in erotic cinema - brought the director wide fame.
In the mid-1980s, he left for America, where he gradually became a highly paid director of large-budget films.
