After graduating from Crover Cleveland High School in Queens, Rosie entered Los Angeles City College in Los Angeles.
Rosie Perez began her career in the late 1980s. She has been a dancer at the Soul Train music hall, choreographer and dancer in video clips for Janet Jackson, Bobby Brown, Diana Ross, LL Cool J and The Boys. Rosie was also the choreographer of the Fly Girls dance group, appearing on the TV show In Living Color. In 1988, director Spike Lee invited her to play a major role in his film Do It Right. She made her successful Broadway debut with Terrence McNally's play Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. In 1992, Rosie played one of the main roles in the comedy White Men Can't Jump with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.
For her role in Peter Weir's Fearless (1993), Rosie Perez was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. In 1997, she starred in the controversial film Perdita Duranga, from which many scenes of excessive violence, sex and nudity were cut for release in the United States, but has been preserved in versions released for other countries.
Rosie Perez starred in many other films and TV series, of which Fondant Jungle (2008-2009), Pineapple Express (2008) and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2009) can be distinguished, during the filming in which she moved serious injury, and also voiced cartoons.
