Like many other supergroups, Bad English also could not boast of either a long existence or a large number of albums. The project was formed at the very end of the 80s by five musicians, each of whom had already achieved fame in other bands. Thus, guitarist Neil Sean and keyboardist Jonathan Kane (b. February 26, 1950) played in the famous melodic rock band Journey, vocalist John Waite (b. July 4, 1952) and bass player Ricky Phillips worked in The Babys. (where Kane also spent about two years), and drummer Dean Castronovo had experience in Wild Dogs, Dr. Mastermind "and" Cacophony ".
The name for the newly minted unit arose during the pool game. Waite (English by birth) smeared the blow, and someone commented on this moment with the words "bad english". This expression really liked all the musicians present, and they decided to call their team that way.
Following a deal with Epic Records in 1989, Bad English debuted a self-titled album, featuring producer Richie Zito. The work showcased the outstanding composing talents of John Waite and Jonathan Kane, as well as the excellent guitar work of Neil Sean. The very first accompanying single "Forget Me Not" made it to the national Top 40. Two other compositions - "Best Of What I Got" and "Heaven Is A Four Letter" - took high positions in the rock charts (first and fifth, respectively), and two more - in the main charts "Billboard" ("Possession" - # 16, "The Price Of Love" - ??# 3). But the highest achievement of the "bad English" was the ballad "When I See You Smile", which settled at the very top of the American charts.
