Born August 2, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. His parents were committed Baptists. After leaving school, he entered the Christian College of Whiton, Illinois, the Faculty of English Literature. However, after a long illness, Wes Craven, skipping a year of study, began to study psychology. In 1963 he received his degrees as a writer and psychologist. A year later, he received his master's degree at Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. While working as a college liberal arts teacher, Wes marries Bonnie Broecker, who is the mother of his two children, Jonathan and Jessica. After living together for less than ten years, Wes and Bonnie divorced.
After the divorce, Wes Craven leaves for New York, where he first works as a taxi driver, and then gets a job as a sound engineer in a film production company. Here in 1971, in a director's tandem with Sean Cunningham, he released his first film, Together. Further, in 1972 and 1977, respectively, Wes Craven released two horror films "The Last House on the Left" and "The Hills Have Eyes", which were a huge success, and the latter even received a prize at the Sitges Film Festival.
