Walter Mattau - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, music videos.

Famous American film actor, winner of an Oscar and other numerous awards, Walter Mattau was born in New York in 1920. According to the information, Mattau's parents were emigrants from Europe: his mother, Rosa Berolskaya, was from Russia, and his father, Milter Matthau, was from Lithuania. The actor himself said that his real surname sounds either like Matansky or Matushansky, but such data are not supported by anything, and they can hardly be trusted one hundred percent, because Walter was very fond of telling others various fables and tales, especially about himself.

The young man had to grow up very early: during the Great Depression, he, who had just graduated from school, earned his own living by training novice boxers, and during the war he served in the US Air Force, where he received the rank of sergeant. It may seem a little unusual that, upon returning to his homeland, Mattau decides to engage in acting, but one way or another, the choice of the guy turned out to be the right one, because very soon the general public will have the opportunity to watch Walter Mattau in the brightest television productions of his time.

The artist made his debut on Broadway, played there for a long time, earning two prestigious Tony awards, and from the mid-50s he tried himself in big cinema, where, by the way, he also succeeded. At first, the roles of Walter Mattau were of the same type - basically, the actor had to play such bad guys - this happened, for example, in the dramatic western The Man from Kentucky and the crime musical King Creole. The public does not like villains - Mattau knew this, and therefore did not expect great results from his work.

But already in 1957 the actor will be rewarded at his true worth - he will be invited to shoot the drama film Elia Kazan Face in the Crowd, which will become his first notable work. After that successful offers flooded, he participated in such legendary productions as the detective thriller Sharade (1963) with the incomparable Audrey Hepburn, the dramatic comedy The Strange Couple (1967), the comedy melodrama Cactus Blossom (1969), the humorous story Old Grumblers (1993) and many others, and for his supporting role in the comedy Billy Wilder Passion for Fortune (1966) was awarded an Oscar. The actor passed away in 2000 at the age of 79.

Walter Mattau has brown eyes, naturally dark hair, fair skin and thin lips. The shape of the face is rectangular, the forehead is high, the hair is straight and thick. Walter Mattau did not change his hair color, preferring natural. The actor has a medium wide nose and a rounded chin. Walter Mattau sometimes let go of his mustache. The actor's height is 189 cm, no tattoos.
