May 18, 1912 - May 12, 2001 - American singer and TV star of the 1940s-1950s, winner of the 1958 Grammy Award, who is best known for his soft and soulful baritone. During the period from 1943 to 1958, his songs hit the "top 10" American charts 42 times. Throughout his career spanning more than half a century, Como has released records exclusively under the RCA Records label since signing with them in 1943. The singer's overall success on television and in music has so far not been replicated by any artist.
