Born November 1, 1951 in Nizhny Tagil, Sverdlovsk Region, RSFSR, USSR.
Graduated from the Ural Polytechnic Institute (1974, Sverdlovsk), the directing department of VGIK (1984, workshop of Igor Talankin) .
In 1975-1979 - assistant director of the Sverdlovsk film studio, since 1984 - director of the Lenfilm film studio. The author of the play based on the novel by Vladimir Nabokov "Invitation to Execution" commissioned by the theater "Schaubune", where P. Stein worked at that time.
He died suddenly on July 1, 2006 in St. Petersburg at the First Medical Institute. The funeral of the director took place on July 5 at the Smolensk cemetery.
