Georg Ots is a pop and opera singer, actor. Participant of hostilities during the Great Patriotic War.
People's Artist of the USSR was born in Petrograd on March 21, 1920. Georg's father is People's Artist of the Estonian SSR K. Kh. Ots. The singer received his secondary education at the Tallinn Lyceum, then graduated from the military school in Tondi. In 1940, he entered the Tallinn University of Technology as an architect. However, Georg did not manage to graduate from the university - the mobilization of the Red Army prevented. On the steamer "Siberia" the artist was sent to Leningrad to be assigned to a military unit. On August 17, 1941, the ship was blown up by an enemy bomb. The surviving passengers were provided with the ship "Ural", on which they went to Leningrad, from there to a railway station near Chelyabinsk. Here, at the station, Georg met Priit Poldroos, artistic director and director, who invited the singer to take part in the formation of the "Estonian State Ensembles" in Yaroslavl. This meeting became the starting point in the development of the artist's creative path.
Since 1944 Georg has been actively involved in his creative activities: he first became a member and soon a soloist of the choir of the Estonian Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1951, the singer received a diploma from the conservatory in Tallinn. In the same 1951, the first Soviet film with Georg Ots, Light in Coordi, was released - an adaptation of the story by Hans Leberecht, which tells about the life of the Estonian people in the post-war period, the formation of the first collective farms, the struggle for class equality. In 1958, Georg starred in the film Mister X. The picture was a huge success, and the main role played in this film brought the actor special popularity.
1972 Georg was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He underwent 8 difficult operations and subsequently lost his eye, but continued to work until the very end. On September 5, 1975, 3 years after the last film with the participation of Georg Ots was released, the actor died.
