February 23, 1685, Halle - April 14, 1759, London - German and English composer of the Baroque era, famous for his operas, oratorios and concerts. He was born in Germany in the same year with Johann Sebastian Bach and Domenico Scarlatti. Having received his musical education and experience in Italy, he then moved to London, and later became an English citizen. Some of his most famous pieces include Messiah, Music on the Water and Music for the Royal Fireworks.
