The future singer graduated from music school No. 1, class of classical guitar in Dolgoprudny. As a child, he gave amateur concerts, receiving money for them, for which the school director wanted to expel him. He was respected by local hooligans for giving concerts in discos. Parents were afraid to give their son to the army and got him into the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Moscow Military District, where he met Stas Namin. Soon after that, in 1979, he got into the "Blue Bird" ensemble, later from there into the "Flowers" group, where he performed until 1981. In 1981 Sarukhanov founded the Krug group, which existed until 1984.
Igor Sarukhanov's solo career began in 1985 as part of the program of the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow (where he won the first prize, in the competition for the best song about Moscow - "Moscow space"). In 1986, the first giant disc of the singer "If we follow the way" was released. From that moment on, he began to actively tour, received the title of laureate of the festival "Bratislava Lira". In 1984 at the festival in Sopot he was awarded the first prize as the author of the song "Behind a sharp turn". In 1990, the first professional video clip was shot for Igor Sarukhanov's song "Barber" (directed by Mikhail Khleborodov).
