August 2, 1945, Kharkov - November 7, 2011, Moscow - Soviet and Russian composer of Armenian origin. He started playing the accordion early, studied in the circle of the Kharkov Teacher's House. In 1964 he graduated from the Gnessin School, accordion class. During his service in the Soviet Army, he played the accordion in an army ensemble. During this period, together with David Tukhmanov, who also served in the ensemble, he began to write orchestrations. In the 1960s, Movsesyan began collaborating with the Yunost radio station: he made orchestrations of pieces for a pop-symphony orchestra, bard melodies. He wrote his first song "Roads" in 1965.
Since 1969 he has been an artist of the Mosconcert, soloist and accompanist of the instrumental workshop. Georgy Movsesyan became famous for the songs "Birch" to the verses of Petrus Brovka, sung by Anna German, and "I have been entrusted with a song" to the verses of Lev Oshanin, which was first performed at the TV competition "Song-77" .
In the 1970s, the composer worked in the genre of Komsomol youth, journalistic, civic songs ("We Say This", poems by Lev Oshanin, 1978; "Welcome to Moscow, Olympics", poems by Robert Rozhdestvensky, 1979), wrote soldiers' songs, songs about sailors, fishermen, drivers, geologists.
In the 1980s, Movsesian's lyric songs were heard. The first of this series of "sentimental short stories" was the song "Farewell to Love" (poems by Mikhail Tanich, 1980), performed by Vakhtang Kikabidze. Then came the ballad "My Years" (poems by Robert Rozhdestvensky, 1981), which was also performed by Kikabidze.
This was followed by a number of lyric songs, the best of them - “Let's talk” and “I like you” (both on the verses of Igor Shaferan, 1982). The composer experimented with a synthesizer, electric guitars - songs for VIA "Flame" "Behind the bend" (poems by Anatoly Poperechnoi, 1980), "And Sputnik calls us on the road (poems by Igor Shaferan, 1982) .
Georgy Movsesyan also tried his hand as a performer of his own songs (song cycle to the poems of Rozhdestvensky "Let's Talk", 1984.
Movsesian's songs were performed by famous singers: Iosif Kobzon, Maya Kristalinskaya, Eduard Khil, Lev Leshchenko, Muslim Magomayev, Anna Veski and others
The composer created five songs for five short stories of the film "Men and All the Others" (1986), where Vakhtang Kikabidze became the director and performer of the main role of the singer-commentator of the events.
Georgy Movsesyan was also the author of music and songs for television and films. In 1994 G. V. Movsesyan was the author of songs for S. Nikonenko's film “I don’t want to marry”, G. V. Movsesyan also starred in an episode of this film (the role of the performer on stage). In 2001, the composer was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
