Czech actor. After graduating in the 1950s, Kotwa became a teacher.
As a practicing Christian, Kotwa was considered politically suspect and potentially disloyal to the Czechoslovak communist administration; he was only allowed to teach in remote rural areas.
Kotva participated in amateur theater in his hometown and began acting professionally in Ostrava, at the regional Divadlo Petra Bezruce theater, in 1959. In 1965 he moved to Prague, becoming one of the founders of the Cinoherni Klub theater there. Klub Cinoherni became the center of Czech cultural life in the 1960s and remained so throughout the 1970s. Kotwa played in the Klub Cinoherni until the 1990s. He has won critical acclaim for his roles in classic Russian dramas, including Gogol's The Inspector General and The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov. Gruvemuveend
