Born on May 1, 1939 in the village of Yurkovka, Ukraine (Cherkasy region).
Graduated from the Khabarovsk Musical College, trumpet class, served in the army.
In 1968 he graduated from the Shchukin Theater School. In the same year he was admitted to the troupe of the Moscow Drama and Comedy Theater on Taganka.
In 1985-87 he worked at the Sovremennik Theater, where he played the roles of Pilipenko ("And in the morning they woke up" after Shukshin), Alexander ("Gemini" by M. Roshchin) and others.
In 1987 he returned to the Taganka Theater.
People's Artist of Russia.
