The world-famous Ukrainian rock band Okean Elzy sounded for the first time on 12.10.1994 in the West of Ukraine - in Lvov. The original members of the group were: Pavel Gudimov playing guitar, Yuri Khustochka and his bass guitar, Denis Glinin on drums and a young 18-year-old physics student Svyatoslav Vakarchuk as the main vocal, composer and songwriter of the group. For more than a year, the group modestly rehearsed in one of the Lviv garages, only occasionally performing on local stages. The first success for the group was in January 1995.
The debut full-fledged concert attracted more than 7 thousand fans. Okean Elzy is finally noticed. They were invited to the festival "Chervona Ruta", the first video for the song "Long time ago" was filmed, they went on a tour not only in Ukraine, but also in countries near abroad.
The group achieved overwhelming success at the Tavria Games, where the elite of the rock scene of Ukraine and not only performed. By 1997, the whole country knew the Okean Elzy group, and their concerts attracted thousands of spectators. With the move to Kiev, their work began to develop even more rapidly. The song "Tam de us is mute" became a real hit, the group signed a contract with the successful musical organization "Nova Records" and performed for the first time in Paris. Online Okean Elzy and their performance in a small cafe were broadcast by the local TV channel MSM International. On April 20, 2001, the legendary album Okean Elzy "Model" was released, which instantly flew off the shelves and acquired the status of the best rock album in the history of Ukrainian musical art. And their songs "Friend" and "911" were included in the top 10 hits of Ukraine according to the 2002 Tavria Games. But in the summer of 2004, the first setbacks overtook the group. Khustochka and Shurov announced their desire to leave Okean Elzy. This news shocked Vakarchuk so much that he spent a month at home with his parents wondering what to do next.
