Was born on September 18 (30), 1884 in Ryazan.
In 1909 he graduated from the drama courses of the Maly Theater and was accepted into the troupe of this theater. Soon he left for the province, played in theaters directed by N.N. Sinelnikov and N.I. Sobolytsikov-Samarin (Rostov-on-Don, Odessa, Kharkov, etc.).
In 1914-1916 and 1922-1950. - actor of the Moscow State Chamber Theater.
In 1917-1918. - Actor and director of the Kiev Chiaroscuro film studio.
In 1919-1922. - Director of the Odessa Film Section of the Political Department of the 41st Division at the Film Committee.
In 1950-1960. worked at the Pushkin Theater.
Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1935) .
He died on June 13, 1964 in Moscow.
