Albert Alexandrovich's father wanted his son to become an engineer. The son, against the will of his father, went to study at the State College of Cinematography (GTK). In those years, the State Customs Committee was one of the most fashionable educational institutions in Moscow. Tuition was paid and most of the students had to work to pay the tuition. The State Customs Committee provided students with work in extras. Extras became Hendelstein's main source of income.
In 1927 he graduated from the directing department of the State Customs Committee.
He worked as an assistant director at Mezhrabpomfilm.
In 1930-1931, as a scriptwriter and director, he staged a number of cultural films, including "Forest", "That which will become paper", "Window to Europe".
In 1943-1945 - director of the front-line film group of the 1st Ukrainian Front.
Since 1945 - director of the Moscow studio of popular science films.
Scriptwriter and director of stories in the news magazines "Agricultural News", "Science and Technology", "Health", "I want to know everything" .
In the last years of his life, a serious illness hit the director. But he courageously continued to work. While I could, I shot when it became difficult to leave the house, - I wrote the scripts. Edith and Leonid Osipovich Utyosov did everything to make him live as long as possible.
He was buried at the 129th plot of the Vostryakovsky cemetery next to his wife, singer Edith Utyosova (1915-1982).
