In 1931 he graduated from the camera department of the State Customs Committee (now - VGIK).
Since 1931 - head of the operator's workshop, professor at VGIK (1943).
He worked as a director of photography in the films of M.I. Romma ("Pyshka", "Lenin in October", "Lenin in 1918", "Dream", "Secret Mission", "Murder on Dante Street").
