Born 1970 - American film producer.
Ironically, Kosov became interested in filmmaking while he was studying a dual major in economics and politics at Princeton as a student. Although he and his college friend Broderick Johnson shared an interest in the film and entertainment business, neither of them pursued a career in filmmaking. Over time, Johnson graduated from university and moved to New York, where he joined a Wall Street brokerage firm. Kosov graduated from university a couple of years later and was intent on going to law school when he heard about Richard Kirkland, a basketball player and gangster, and decided he could make a good movie out of his story. Kosov and Johnson spent three years together working with a producer on this project. The project was not carried out, but experience encouraged them, and they moved to Los Angeles, Immediately after moving west, the two were introduced to FedEx employee and founder Frederick W. Smith. Johnson & Kosov took the opportunity to present Smith with a 221-page proposal that an independent film company, backed by a capitalized individual or company, and matched by the main studio for an exclusive distribution arrangement, would, using their reasoned methods, reap a return on copyrighted assets for a certain period of time. Smith liked what he read.
Ultimately, Smith chose to partner with Kosova and Johnson to fund, develop and produce Alcon Entertainment. The two producers set up an "office" in a small apartment that they rented for a week, and later a "real" office after their first project, Lost Happy, which turned out to be a box office flop and an instant hit for young producers. However, their second film, which they produced, Skip the Dog, came out immediately after production and earned them their first true success and Smith's admiration for their perseverance and business sense.
In 2009, Kosov, along with Johnson, produced Alcon's acclaimed box office hit The Blind Side, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and which won the Sandra Bullock Award for Best Actress. The Blind Side grossed over $ 309 million worldwide and broke box office records as the first film to star a female lead. Most recently, Kosov produced Story of a Dolphin, a family 3D movie starring Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd and Chris Kristofferson. Kosov also produced The Book of Eli, along with Broderick Johnson and producer Joel Silver. The film was directed by the Hughes brothers and stars Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis. Other films produced by Alcon Entertainment include the cult hits My Dog Skip, Insomnia and 16 Quarters.
