Born on March 15, 1927 in the Ipik volost of the Valmiera region in Latvia.
Graduated from the studio of the J. Rainis Art Theater (now the Riga Drama Theater) (1949). Since 1949 he has been an actor in this theater. In cinema since 1955.
Honored Artist of the Latvian SSR (1958)
People's Artist of the Latvian SSR (1978)
People's Artist of the USSR (1988) .
He passed away on August 3, 1998 in Riga.
