People's Artist of the RSFSR, a recognized actor of Soviet theater and cinema Valery Gataev was born in Kazan in 1938. After graduating from the Kazan Acting School, Gataev entered the Moscow Art Theater School, after which he became an artist of the Kalinin Drama Theater, and in 1971 he moved to the Lenin Komsomol Theater, also performed on the stage of the Gorky Theater. He was immediately remembered by the general public for his bright, intriguing role of Frol Kurganov in the popular Soviet TV series Shadows disappear at noon (1971). It was the story of a small taiga village called Zeleny Dol, on the example of which the directors of the dramatic film Valery Uskov and Vladimir Krasnopolsky tried to depict the way of life and customs prevailing throughout the vast Russia.
The role of Kurganov made Valery Zakirovich a real celebrity, he begins to appear more and more often on television screens - either as Grisha Kotovsky in the historical drama The Last Hayduk (1972), then as the sailor Linnik from the biographical narrative Georgy Sedov (1975), or as a character of the headman Ivan Porfirevich in the tragic tape Purification (1990).
In the future, Gataev was used mainly as a supporting artist, although here there is something to be proud of. For example, the film with Valery Gataev entitled One Chance for Two (1998) became a real emerald in his precious cinematic collection, because in the presented film directed by Patrice Leconte, Valery Zakirovich starred along with such world stars as Jean-Paul Belmondo, Vanessa Paradis and Alain Delon.
Valery Gataev passed away in the summer of 2011, leaving behind a legacy equal to his participation in 30 film plays.
