Was born in 1979 in Tbilisi (Georgia). Emigrated to France at the age of 17.
In 2005 he shot his first full-length film, Thirteen, which won him an award at the Venice Film Festival for Best First Picture, and at the Sundance Festival - the Grand Prix for Best Foreign Film.
The next film, Inheritance, co-produced with Teimuraz Babluani, received a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
