Born December 11, 1973, New York, USA - American actor and musician-rapper, better known under the stage name Mos Def (Mos Def), as well as Yasiin Bey (Yasin Bey).
He began his rapper career with Urban Thermo Dynamics, recording albums with Da Bush Babees and De La Soul. Together with Talib Kweli, he founded the stage duo Black Star and released an album of the same name in 1998. In the late 1990s, he was one of the leading musicians of underground hip-hop (as rated by Rawkus Records). As a solo artist, he recorded the albums Black on Both Sides in 1999, The New Danger in 2004, True Magic in 2006 and The Ecstatic in 2009.
Although he earned his initial acclaim for his musical endeavors, since the early 2000s his on-screen work has made him one of the few rappers to receive critical acclaim for his acting. For example, in 2004 he starred in the films "Creation of God" and "The Woodcutter", in 2005 - in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", in 2006 starred in the film "16 Quarters", in 2008 - "Rewind". Mos Def also took an active part in various political and social campaigns.
