Was born in the spring of 1935 in a Riga family. His mother was an actress and his father was a theater artist. Juris Lejaskalns also connected his life with the theater. During his school years, he attended a theater group, then graduated from the theater department of the Jazep Vitol Conservatory. After graduation, he became an actor in the Drama Theater. In 1969 he became an Honored Artist of Latvia.
Theatrical roles of Juris Lejaskalns covered a wide repertoire. At various times he was Gustav-Armand in The Lady with Camellias, Julius Caesar in the play of the same name by William Shakespeare, Gromilov in the theatrical production of Talents and admirers based on Ostrovsky's play.
Simultaneously acted in films. The first film with his participation is a 30-year history of the dramatic fate of one Latvian family called Towards a New Shore. Then other films with Juris Lejaskalns were released: the short film Cause and Effect, the comedy Ivan Brovkin on the virgin lands, the melodramas Edgar and Christina and the Times of the Land Surveyors. The creators of the TV movie The Long Road in the Dunes did not pass the actor by their attention either. He appears in the series as a warden. Another famous TV series with his participation is Conscience. The film tells about a former guard of a German concentration camp who helps several prisoners of war to escape, then decides to destroy all the fugitives.
In total, the actor's filmography includes more than three dozen films and series. More than once he appeared in the form of negative characters such as the mafioso from the Soviet action movie Double Trap. But even the cinematic villains in his performance turned out to be intelligent, smart, perceptive, without a drop of primitiveness and rudeness.
