May 29, 1936, Voronezh, USSR (Russia) - February 4, 2019, Moscow, Russia - Soviet and Russian composer, conductor.

Graduated from the Tchaikovsky School of Music. In 1962 he graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I.Tchaikovsky - teacher S.S.Bogatyrev, then entered graduate school to T.N. Khrennikov. He studied conducting under L.M. Ginzburg.

Member of the Union of Composers of the USSR (1964) and the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR (1967).

Created the operas Masquerade and At the Dawn of Hazy Youth, the ballets Shulamith, War and Peace and Song of Songs. Author of four symphonies, several oratorios, suites and instrumental pieces.

Created new music for Dovzhenko's films "Earth" (restored version of 1971), "Arsenal" (1972), "Zvenigora" (1973).

Ovchinnikov's works were performed by collectives under the direction of conductors A. Gauk, A. Zhyuraitis, M. D. Shostakovich.

According to some testimonies, at the premiere of the composer's First Symphony conducted by A. Gauck, the audience demanded that it be repeated in its entirety.

Among the recordings of Ovchinnikov-conductor (in addition to his own compositions) - works by PI Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven, S. V. Rachmaninoff.
